HD Hyundai Electric Visits Research Lab to Encourage Local Employees
Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai, emphasized cooperation for achieving decarbonization by meeting global corporate leaders at the '2024 World Economic Forum (hereinafter Davos Forum)' held in Davos, Switzerland.
HD Hyundai announced on the 17th that Vice Chairman Jung attended the Davos Forum's 'Supply and Transport Industry Council' and 'Energy Industry Council (Oil & Gas Governors)' to discuss decarbonization promotion and cooperation measures. This is Vice Chairman Jung's second attendance at the Davos Forum following last year.
The Supply and Transport Industry Council is a gathering of CEOs from over 20 global companies including A.P. Moller Maersk, PSA International, Volvo, and DHL. Vice Chairman Jung met with Chairman Robert Mærsk Uggla to strengthen cooperation on eco-friendly ships. HD Hyundai's shipbuilding affiliate Hyundai Mipo Dockyard delivered the world's first eco-friendly methanol-powered container carrier ordered by Maersk last year.
Subsequently, at the Energy Industry Council, discussions were held on mutual cooperation measures for decarbonization and practical implementation plans for the greenhouse gas reduction agreement reached at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28). This council included over 30 global energy companies such as Shell, TotalEnergies, Petronas, and Trafigura.
Vice Chairman Jung also emphasized decarbonization at 'CES 2024,' the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition held last week in Las Vegas, USA. In his keynote speech at CES 2024, he stated, "We will build a hydrogen energy ecosystem spanning the entire globe from maritime to land," and "We will establish a decarbonized global energy value chain for the future."
Vice Chairman Jung also met with Alex Karp, CEO of the US big data company Palantir Technologies, with whom he has maintained ties since 2022, to discuss cooperation plans. HD Hyundai is working with Palantir to build an AI-based smart shipyard and announced the completion of the first phase of the smart shipyard project (Future of Shipyard, FOS) in December last year.
After the Davos Forum, Vice Chairman Jung plans to visit the HD Hyundai Electric research institute located in Zurich, Switzerland, to encourage the resident and local employees. The Swiss research institute, established by HD Hyundai Electric in 2017, developed HD Hyundai Electric's first eco-friendly product, the 'eco-friendly GIS (Gas-Insulated Switchgear),' in 2021.
