Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Seeks New Name... Promotion Committee Holds First Meeting on 17th

The Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Renaming Promotion Committee held its first meeting on the 17th and began full-scale activities.

The 'New Naming Promotion Committee' for the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province held its first meeting and began full-scale activities.

On the 17th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had formed the 'New Naming Promotion Committee' for the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province, composed mainly of private sector representatives from academia, professional organizations, and religious circles, and held its first meeting at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office in Uijeongbu City.

Gyeonggi Province judged that a new name is needed that symbolizes the identity and historicity of northern Gyeonggi, represents its values, and reflects the vision and future of northern Gyeonggi, and thus formed a private-sector-led committee to promote this.

The New Naming Promotion Committee was composed mainly of private individuals interested and enthusiastic about the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province, including So Sun-chang, chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Local Era Committee, and Jin Se-hyuk, chairman of the Public Deliberation Committee for the Establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

At the meeting, the committee elected Lee Won-hee, president of Hankyong National University, as chairman, and agreed to work to promote the new naming of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province and raise nationwide interest. They also announced the plan for the new naming contest and held a placard performance.

Chairman Lee Won-hee stated in his announcement, "I am confident that the new name of the Special Self-Governing Province we create together will become a seed that will illuminate the growth and development of Korea's future," and emphasized, "With the goal of leading 'national balanced development' and 'Korea's new growth engine,' we will steadfastly promote the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province with the new name given by the people."

The new naming contest for the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province will begin online submissions through a separate contest website from the 18th of this month until the 19th of next month.
