Yoon Approves Dismissal of Kim Yujin and Oxychan from Defense Committee

Commissioner Ok's 'Profanity Scandal', Commissioner Kim's 'Confidentiality Breach'
Two New Candidates for the Broadcast Ethics Committee to Be Recommended Soon

President Yoon Suk-yeol dismissed Broadcasting and Communications Deliberation Committee member Ok Si-chan, who caused controversy over a 'swearing scandal,' and committee member Kim Yoo-jin, who was embroiled in a 'breach of confidentiality' controversy, on the 17th.

According to the Presidential Office, President Yoon approved the dismissal proposal for the two committee members on the morning of the same day.

Earlier, the Broadcasting and Communications Deliberation Committee held an emergency plenary meeting on the 12th at the Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, and passed the dismissal proposal for members Kim and Ok.

Member Ok caused controversy by throwing a bundle of documents at Chairman Ryu Hee-rim during a closed subcommittee meeting of the Broadcasting and Communications Deliberation Committee on the 9th while making remarks related to 'commissioned complaints,' then swearing and leaving the meeting. Chairman Ryu is suspected of mobilizing family and acquaintances to file complaints with the committee regarding Newstapa reports.

In the case of member Kim Yoo-jin, the issue was that she leaked information related to commissioned complaint agenda items to the media in advance, thus failing to maintain confidentiality.

Both committee members were appointed by former President Moon Jae-in. With the approval of the dismissal proposal, two committee seats recommended by the president became vacant.

President Yoon is expected to recommend two new candidates for the committee soon.
