Busan Health and Environment Research Institute Receives International Recognition for Environmental Analysis Capabilities

2023 International Proficiency Testing Results by the American Academy of Environmental Resources

Drinking Water, Water Quality, Soil, Environmental Hazardous Factors... Achieved Highest Grade 'Satisfactory'

The Busan Metropolitan City Health and Environment Research Institute received the highest grade of 'Satisfactory' in all items across four fields in the international proficiency testing conducted last year by the Environmental Resource Association (ERA) in the United States.

Busan Health and Environment Research Institute Receives International Recognition for Environmental Analysis Capabilities International Proficiency Certification in the Drinking Water Sector.

The international proficiency testing is conducted annually for analytical institutions worldwide to improve their analytical capabilities and ensure reliability. It is carried out from April to December by international proficiency testing organizations that comply with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC) regulations.


The institute has participated in evaluations organized by the ERA and SIGMA-ALDRICH, international proficiency testing organizations, since 2015.


In this evaluation, the institute participated in four fields: ▲Drinking Water ▲Water Quality ▲Soil ▲Environmental Hazardous Factors (Sand), receiving the highest grade in all items for each field, and was certified as a Laboratory of Excellence in all four fields.


They evaluated 17 items in the Drinking Water field, 20 items in the Water Quality field, 12 items in the Soil field, and 3 items in the Environmental Hazardous Factors (Sand) field.


Notably, since the institute began participating in the international proficiency testing in 2017, it has achieved the highest grade in all items for the three fields of Drinking Water, Water Quality, and Soil for seven consecutive years, which is recognized as an international acknowledgment of the institute's excellent analytical capabilities.


Additionally, despite participating for the first time last year in the Environmental Hazardous Factors (Sand) field, the institute received the highest grade, further proving its outstanding analytical capabilities.


Seung-yoon Jeong, Director of the Busan Metropolitan City Health and Environment Research Institute, stated, “As a result of continuous efforts to strengthen the institute’s capabilities, we achieved the highest grade not only in the fields of Drinking Water, Water Quality, and Soil but also in the Environmental Hazardous Factors field, earning certification as an international analytical institution.” He added, “We will continue to strive to provide rapid and accurate environmental analysis results and become a more trusted analytical institution for citizens.”
