Famous Female Model Appeals for Leniency
Prosecutors Say "Bad Influence on Youth"
A famous female model in Vietnam is facing the risk of imprisonment after posting a video of performing motorcycle stunts on social media. She is likely to be sentenced to 2 to 7 years in prison.
On the 16th, VN Express, a local Vietnamese media outlet, reported that the Ho Chi Minh City prosecutor charged female model Tran Thi Ngoc Chin (35) with public order violations for performing motorcycle stunts. Chin was investigated last October for riding a motorcycle near Ho Chi Minh City without protective gear and in an "inappropriate" posture.
At the time, she knelt and lay down on the motorcycle. She also posed in various positions, such as standing with both hands spread out, then filmed these scenes with her companions and uploaded the video to TikTok and Facebook. Chin is known to have millions of followers on TikTok and Facebook.
Authorities who reviewed the video immediately arrested Chin and confiscated three motorcycles and drones as evidence. The police seized two expensive motorcycles she was riding and fined her 8.5 million dong (approximately 450,000 KRW). Additionally, she was detained on charges of driving an unregistered motorcycle without a large motorcycle license.

The Ho Chi Minh City prosecutor stated, "The video posted by Chin negatively affected public safety and order, especially among young people." Afterwards, Chin expressed remorse for her actions and appealed for leniency from the authorities. She debuted as a model in 2005 and gained great popularity by shooting numerous lingerie and swimsuit photo shoots. In 2011, she also participated in the ‘Miss Vietnam International’ contest and won a prize.
In Vietnam, where motorcycles are the main mode of transportation, cases of arrest for performing dangerous stunts on speeding motorcycles have been increasing recently. In July last year, four boys aged 16 to 19 were caught by police for riding motorcycles on the Dong Nai Province car-only lane while lifting the front wheel. They filmed themselves performing stunts on the highway and posted the footage on social media, resulting in their detention by police on charges of violating the Road Traffic Safety Law.
