Ministry of Environment to Operate 24/7 Continuously
The Ministry of Environment announced on the 16th that it has established a 'Special Mountain Rescue Team (TF)' in Seoraksan National Park and has begun full-scale rescue operations.
This Seoraksan Special Mountain Rescue Team consists of eight professional rescue members who hold life-saving certifications and rock climbing skills. They are responsible for mountain accidents occurring on high-altitude rock faces 24 hours a day.
To prevent safety accidents, they also conduct inspections of disaster-prone areas and accident-prone zones, as well as provide hiking guidance to visitors.
Seoraksan National Park recorded 131 safety accidents over the past five years, making it the second highest after Bukhansan National Park (347 cases). To strengthen response to visitor safety accidents, the Ministry of Environment deployed a special mountain rescue team to Bukhansan National Park in May 2019.
Ahn Se-chang, Director of the Nature Conservation Bureau at the Ministry of Environment, stated, "Seoraksan National Park has many rugged high-altitude terrains, and the need for deployment of specialized mountain rescue personnel has been continuously raised. We will ensure that citizens visiting Seoraksan can use the park comfortably and safely."
