Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do announced on the 16th that it will provide financial support to residents affected by house fires starting this year.
This is a key project of Gochang-gun to offer consolation to residents who have lost their precious homes to fire and to encourage their swift recovery.
The support targets owners or tenants of detached houses and apartment buildings who have their address registered in Gochang-gun and actually reside there.
The amount of support for fire damage is provided according to the extent of the house damage: 8 million KRW for total loss (more than 70% of the building destroyed), 5 million KRW for partial loss (30% or more but less than 70% destroyed), and 2 million KRW for minor loss (10% or more but less than 30% destroyed).
Additionally, if fire damage support is received under other laws or ordinances, and the amount is less than the support amount specified in this ordinance, the difference can be supplemented.
However, support is excluded in cases where ▲ the property is insured against fire ▲ the property is a vacant house under the Special Act on the Maintenance of Vacant Houses and Small Houses ▲ the fire was caused by arson by the affected resident ▲ the damage from the fire is minor (less than 10% destroyed) ▲ or the building violates other laws. Furthermore, if the support fund is received through false or fraudulent means, the full amount will be reclaimed.
The application deadline is within 30 days from the date of the fire occurrence. To apply, affected residents must submit an application form along with the fire incident report issued by the fire station to the administrative welfare center of their town or township.
County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I hope that the support fund for residents affected by house fires will provide some consolation to those who have suffered fire damage, and we will continue to expand support for affected residents.”
