On the 15th, the Jeonbuk Kimje Police Station announced that they had referred Council member A to the prosecution on charges of assault and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, etc.

Member A is accused of going to meet B, who works at a supermarket in Kimje City, on the 8th of last month, grabbing B's body, and assaulting B with fists. The supermarket's closed-circuit television (CCTV) reportedly captured scenes of B violently resisting by leaning backward as A assaulted them. It is known that A and B had been in a relationship for several years in the past. However, it was reported that recently A visited or attempted to call B despite B's unwillingness.

Previously, former Council member A caused controversy in 2021 due to an inappropriate relationship with fellow Council member C, leading to expulsion from the council for damaging its dignity. Since the revival of local councils in 1991, A and C are said to be the only local council members in Jeonbuk to have been expelled. Afterwards, A partially won a lawsuit to nullify the expulsion and returned to the council. He ran as an independent in the 2022 local elections and was elected.

However, a police official refrained from commenting, stating, "We cannot disclose specific details of the charges."
