Kakao Entertainment's music platform Melon and KakaoBank announced on the 16th that they will jointly donate 10 million KRW to the Korea Music Performers Association through the MMA2023 (MELON MUSIC AWARDS) 'Favorite Star Award'.
The MMA2023 held last December featured KakaoBank as the main sponsor for the second consecutive year. It was the first event held after the opening of Inspire Arena, Korea's first K-pop dedicated arena, drawing attention with spectacular performances by 13 teams and announcing winners in a total of 30 award categories.
Ahead of MMA2023, KakaoBank's mobile app conducted voting for the Favorite Star Award, selecting stars loved for their various activities throughout the year. Upon news that 10 million KRW would be donated in the name of the winning artists and their fandoms, many fans participated in the voting to exert positive influence through their artists. As a result, BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) won the KakaoBank Favorite Star Award chosen by fans.
Accordingly, Melon and KakaoBank plan to donate 10 million KRW to the Korea Music Performers Association in the name of the artists and fandoms. The Korea Music Performers Association is the only domestic collective management organization representing musicians, consisting of over 44,000 singers and performers in popular music, traditional Korean music, and classical music. It leads efforts not only in managing performers' copyrights but also in improving the conditions and status of musicians' musical activities.
The Korea Music Performers Association plans to use the KakaoBank Favorite Star Award donation as funding for musician support projects that assist non-mainstream, indie, and rookie musicians in their music creation and performance activities.
