Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) has expressed its strong intention to actively promote the development of Guro-gu following the passage of the "Special Act on Undergrounding Railroads and Integrated Development of Railroad Sites" in the National Assembly plenary session.
The railroad undergrounding project is a long-awaited project for Guro-gu that can resolve residents' inconveniences such as disrupted living zones and traffic problems.
The railroad undergrounding targets are largely divided into the Gyeongin Line, Gyeongbu Line, and Line 2.
The railroads with aboveground land that can be utilized are the two national railroad sections: the Gyeongin Line and the Gyeongbu Line. The Guro-gu sections are 5.6 km from Guro Station to Onsu Station (Gyeongin Line) and 2.2 km from Sindorim Station to Gasan Digital Complex Station (Gyeongbu Line).
Guro-gu plans to develop utilization plans and concepts for the aboveground railroad sites in connection with the "2050 Guro Urban Development Plan" to transform the living spaces of residents, which were inconvenient due to spatial disconnection, into pleasant and convenient areas.
Additionally, with the passage of the special railroad undergrounding law, a green light is expected for the relocation project of the Guro Train Depot.
Even if the Guro Train Depot is relocated, there were limitations in completely solving the regional separation and disconnection issues caused by the Gyeongin Line and Gyeongbu Line. However, if railroad undergrounding is promoted, the living zones and transportation network system can be greatly improved.
Therefore, if the Guro Train Depot site and the aboveground spaces of the Gyeongbu Line and Gyeongin Line are developed in an integrated manner, it is expected to generate synergy effects and lead urban development as a strategic hub area.
A Guro-gu official stated, “The railroad undergrounding project is not simply a civil engineering project but a project that secures residents' housing rights and can lead to urban regeneration of the old downtown area of Guro. We ask for your great interest and support.”
