Check These 7 Pregnancy and Childbirth Support Options
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it will expand and implement seven pregnancy and childbirth support projects this year. First, the most attention-grabbing pregnancy and childbirth support project, the First Meeting Voucher, will increase support for families with multiple children.
The existing voucher payment of 2 million KRW per newborn will be expanded to 2 million KRW for the first child and 3 million KRW for the second child and beyond. Additionally, to alleviate the economic burden caused by rising prices and increased childcare costs after birth, the support amount for purchasing diapers and formula milk will be increased by 10,000 KRW each.
From this year, monthly support for diaper purchases will be 90,000 KRW, and for formula milk purchases, 110,000 KRW. Support for postpartum and newborn health care workers for families with multiple children will also be significantly expanded.
Previously, care by two personnel for twins was supported for up to 7 hours, but from this year, it will be extended to 8 hours. For triplets or more, the number of personnel will be expanded from 2 to a maximum of 3, and the support period can be used for up to 40 days.
Also, families who register pregnant women in Sacheon City will be able to extend the rental period for breast pumps for breastfeeding after childbirth by one month, allowing a maximum rental period of up to 3 months.
In particular, income criteria for high-risk pregnant women medical expense support, premature and congenital anomaly medical expense support, and congenital hearing loss screening and hearing aid support projects will be completely abolished. Support can now be received regardless of income.
Sacheon City has designated Cheonga Women’s Clinic located in Samcheonpo as a base medical institution in a medically underserved delivery area, investing 550 million KRW to operate a 24-hour delivery room equipped with a comfortable environment, the latest advanced medical equipment, and skilled medical staff.
To prepare for emergencies, Sacheon City has signed MOUs with the National Gyeongsang National University Hospital and Samcheonpo Jeil Hospital, and established a 119 Safety Call (24-hour emergency contact network) with the Sacheon Fire Station, prioritizing the safety of mothers and babies.
Since its opening, the delivery medical institution has played a trusted role in the local community, with three births in December last year alone and more babies expected to be born from January to February this year.
A city official said, “In 2024, we will listen carefully to the opinions of citizens using the public health center and actively strive to provide more benefits in the field of childbirth support.”
