Gwangjin-gu, Public and Private Sectors Join Hands to Eradicate Harmful Businesses

Establishing Public-Private-Police Cooperation System to Improve and Regulate Harmful Businesses... Persuading Building Owners and Inducing Business Owners to Change Industries, Proceeding with Closure Procedures for 5 Harmful Businesses

Gwangjin-gu, Public and Private Sectors Join Hands to Eradicate Harmful Businesses

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is taking action to eradicate illegal business activities of youth-harmful establishments.

The district plans to intensify efforts to create a clean and pleasant environment, focusing on 69 illegal youth-harmful establishments concentrated in the residential area of Junggok-dong.

First, a cooperative system involving the private sector, government, and police will be established to improve and organize harmful establishments. Strategic goals will be set to eradicate harmful businesses, and joint inspections and crackdowns, as well as regular campaigns by the 'Youth-Harmful Establishments Eradication Neighborhood Promotion Council,' will be conducted.

Additionally, through continuous communication with building owners, business owners will be encouraged to change their business types, and ways to utilize vacant leased spaces will be explored together to find solutions.

Last year, along with continuous guidance and crackdowns on harmful establishments, the environment was improved by installing additional security lights around the establishments and increasing streetlight brightness.

Moreover, a launching ceremony for the 'Youth-Harmful Establishments Eradication Neighborhood Promotion Council,' voluntarily formed by local residents, was held, and a large-scale publicity campaign was carried out. As a result of joint intensive crackdowns with the police and others, 25 establishments were ordered to suspend operations.

In particular, the closure of five establishments due to the cessation of lease renewals through continuous guidance, crackdowns, and encouragement of business type changes was the result of communication achieved through persuasion.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We will conduct strong guidance and crackdowns on illegal business activities of harmful establishments," adding, "We will do our best to create a sound educational environment for youth and safe streets for residents. We hope local residents will also participate."
