Former Democratic Party Supreme Council Member... First Incumbent Local Government Head
Kim Jin-pyo Leaves Suwon Mu... Yeom Tae-young Runs as Candidate
Yeom Tae-young, former Gyeonggi Province Deputy Governor and three-term mayor of Suwon, has completed his registration as a preliminary candidate for Suwon-mu.
On the morning of the 15th, around 10 a.m., Yeom completed his registration as a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly in the Suwon-mu electoral district at the Suwon City Gwonseon-gu Election Commission under the Democratic Party of Korea. After stepping down from his deputy governor position last December, he gradually resumed political activities by visiting the grave of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun and Pyeongsan Village. With his registration as a preliminary candidate on this day, he officially announced the start of his election campaign.

Yeom defined the nature of this general election as "an election to judge the reckless, incompetent, and irresponsible Yoon Seok-youl administration," stating, "I will make this an opportunity to restore lost politics, revive people’s livelihoods, and recover the nation’s dignity, which has been falling endlessly."
He said, "Suwon is like a parent who raised 'Citizen Yeom Tae-young' for me," and emphasized, "Through this election, I will breathe new vitality into the development of 'Suwon, the city of great citizens.'" He also pledged, "For Suwon, which is my destiny, I will wholeheartedly present and implement new visions and possibilities."
Yeom was born in 1960 in Suwon (then Hwaseong County), graduated from Suseong High School and Seoul National University. During the participatory government era, he served as a secretary for national policy tasks and was the first ever to serve three terms as mayor of Suwon. In 2020, he became the first incumbent local government head to be appointed as a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, and after leading discussions on revising the Local Autonomy Act, he successfully led Suwon’s elevation to a special city status.
