Accelerating Efforts to Secure National Funding and Promote Agricultural Products
Lee Byeong-no, former mayor of Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, continues his vigorous activities as Damyang-gun's self-proclaimed 'No. 1 Salesperson' in the new year.
According to Damyang-gun on the 15th, since the 9th until the 14th, Mayor Lee visited the National Assembly, Seoul Jogyesa Temple, Bongeunsa Temple, Garak Market, and Hyundai Department Store to secure national funding and promote Damyang agricultural products.
Following the direct transaction market held last August, during the three-day Seoul Jogyesa direct transaction market on the first day of the lunar new year, five Damyang-gun companies participated, selling about 70 items of Damyang agricultural and specialty products, while promoting the Damyang Jangteo Mall and the Hometown Love Donation Program.
He paid a courtesy visit to Jinwoo, the Chief Executive Monk of the Jogye Order, expressing gratitude for the cooperation including the supply of 1,000 bags of Damyang Daesup Malgeun rice to Jogyesa every month since last month and regular promotional events for Damyang agricultural products.
Next, he visited Wonmyeong, the head monk of Bongeunsa Temple, requesting cooperation to supply Damyang Daesup Malgeun rice to Bongeunsa.
Additionally, he visited Taejin Trading (CEO Kim Myeong-seong), an export company that recently worked hard for the export of Damyang strawberries to Mongolia, listened to feedback on Damyang strawberries in Mongolia and difficulties in export, and agreed to strengthen cooperation.
The Damyang strawberries exported this time are scheduled to be distributed to 34 locations including E-Mart in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and due to the enthusiastic local response, discussions are underway to open a 'Damyang Pavilion' within the supermarket.
In the early morning of the 12th, he visited the central warehouse of Garak Market in Seoul, a major shipping point for Damyang strawberries and tomatoes, and the agricultural wholesale market to check the distribution status of agricultural products, listen to field voices, and discuss improvement directions to ensure Damyang's excellent agricultural products receive proper prices.
Following that, he visited Hyundai Department Store Pangyo branch and personally participated in an event to widely promote the excellence of 'Merry Queen,' a new strawberry variety cultivated in Damyang, to consumers in large cities.
Merry Queen is a strawberry variety independently developed by the Damyang-gun Agricultural Technology Center and registered in 2019. It has firm fruit with excellent storability and high sweetness, making it highly demanded by young customers with young children. Currently, it is cultivated by 40 farms over an area of 5 hectares in Damyang-gun.
Lee Byeong-no, mayor of Damyang-gun, said, "It is meaningful to be able to showcase Damyang's excellent agricultural products such as strawberries and cherry tomatoes to consumers in the metropolitan area," adding, "I will continue to promote Damyang actively and spare no support for the production and distribution of high-quality agricultural products."
