On the 15th, Mr. A, who lives in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk, told Yonhap News that he cracked an egg on the morning of the 10th to make a fried egg and found that it contained four yolks. He first took a photo and then ate the fried egg. Afterward, he searched the internet and read that the probability of an egg having four yolks is even lower than winning the first prize in the lottery, so he decided to reveal this through the media.
Mr. A said, "I bought a large egg at a nearby mart on the 8th and stored it. When I cracked it to fry, it was so amazing that I took a photo, but since I was cooking, I couldn't take many pictures." He added, "The taste was the same as a regular egg." He continued, "Since this is the first time this year that I have eaten an egg with four yolks, it feels like a great start. I have hopes that something big will happen this year." However, he joked, "I hope I haven't used up all my luck on this four-yolk egg."
Earlier this year, after an egg with four yolks was discovered in the UK, the British Egg Information Service stated that the probability of an egg having four yolks is 1 in 1.1 billion. Considering that the probability of winning the first prize in the domestic lottery is 1 in 8.14 million, finding an egg with four yolks is 135 times more difficult than winning the first prize in the domestic lottery.

In Korea, eggs with four yolks have been found twice in the past month. Previously, on the 22nd of last month, a housewife named Ms. Kim living in Songpa-gu, Seoul, discovered an egg with four yolks while making a fried egg and contacted the Korea Poultry Association. The four-yolk egg discovered by Ms. Kim was the first officially confirmed four-yolk egg in Korea.
Meanwhile, hens usually start laying eggs from 16 weeks of age, and such four-yolk abnormal eggs can occur in immature pullets whose physiological functions are unstable. When hens pass 20 weeks of age and enter a stable hormonal phase, the occurrence of eggs with three to four yolks sharply decreases. According to the Korea Poultry Association, eggs with four yolks are safe to eat and pose no health problems.
