Establishing the foundation for Busan's leap as a global hub city in 2024... Plan to concentrate all city adminis
Busan City will hold a series of report meetings on the 2024 municipal administration work plans across five major sectors from the 15th to the 18th, presided over by Mayor Park Hyung-jun.
The five sectors are ▲(1st) Economic Innovation and Growth Hub City ▲(2nd) Citizen Safety and Environmental City ▲(3rd) Sustainable Balanced Development City ▲(4th) Culture, Tourism, and Welfare City ▲(5th) Realization of Citizen Happiness Administration, with one session held for each sector, totaling five sessions.
Through these report meetings, Mayor Park Hyung-jun will receive work plan reports from each department, bureau, and headquarters head, reviewing and discussing this year’s key administrative directions and goals, sector-specific priority policies, and current projects.
As Mayor Park’s administration enters its third year, this year’s work plan report meetings will emphasize producing tangible results that citizens can feel.
In fact, Mayor Park instructed that this year’s work plans be established as a ‘blueprint’ with challenging goal-setting and a concrete roadmap to lead policies with a sense of urgency. The work plan report meetings this year can be seen as a commitment to driving change in municipal administration according to that blueprint.
Notably, the first report meeting will be held at the Small Business Comprehensive Support Center located within Jagalchi Market, reflecting the intention and achievements of realizing a warm administration that works closely with the livelihood of citizens.
The Small Business Comprehensive Support Center opened in 2022 to provide comprehensive support for the innovation and growth of small business owners, who are the backbone of Busan’s economy amid difficult economic conditions, offering tailored support according to the growth stages of small businesses.
Through the early-year work report meetings, the two major goals of the 8th elected Busan administration?‘Busan, a city of citizen happiness where people want to live again’ and ‘Busan, a global hub city’?will be reaffirmed. The core goal for this year will be ‘laying the foundation for leaping forward as a global hub city,’ focusing all administrative capabilities on enhancing Busan’s global competitiveness.
The first report meeting, held at 10 a.m. on the 15th at the Small Business Comprehensive Support Center, will cover the economic innovation and growth sector under the theme of ‘Stabilizing Livelihoods and Enhancing Economic Vitality,’ which is an essential condition and foundation for building a global hub city.
Plans and discussions will cover boosting economic vitality (Bounce) through support for small and medium-sized enterprises for ‘livelihood’ and ‘future,’ revitalizing neighborhood commercial districts, building future foundations (Innovation) such as advancing local industries and fostering AI and quantum technology sectors, nurturing future talents, and strengthening Busan’s position in the world (Global) through strategic investment attraction and startup activation.
In particular, in-depth discussions are expected on the creation of a financial center, including attracting domestic and international financial institutions and fostering digital finance, which Mayor Park emphasizes as core functions of ‘Busan Global Hub City,’ as well as promoting Busan as a startup and education city through industry-academia cooperation. Through this meeting, Mayor Park is expected to strongly urge the strengthening of cooperative networks with the government and private sectors and the active promotion of projects.
From the 16th, sector-specific work reports will be held sequentially at City Hall for ▲(2nd) Citizen Safety and Environment ▲(3rd) Sustainable Balanced Development ▲(4th) Culture, Tourism, and Welfare ▲(5th) Realization of Citizen Happiness Administration, continuing substantive discussions.
In the 2nd sector of Citizen Safety and Environment, plans include building and strengthening safety city infrastructure, expanding public medical foundations and citizen health services, promoting Busan-style carbon reduction strategies, and creating a pleasant environmental city. The 3rd sector of Global Future Vision will focus on the rapid construction of Gadeokdo New Airport, development of the airport complex city, establishment of a Northeast Asia logistics platform, and building BuTX, accelerating the creation of a global logistics and hub city.
In the 4th sector of Culture, Tourism, and Welfare, discussions will focus on establishing world-class cultural, tourism, and sports infrastructure, expanding global content, and strengthening Busan-style integrated care and social services to enhance citizen welfare. The final 5th sector of Realization of Citizen Happiness Administration will review plans to strengthen Busan’s urban brand competitiveness, implement high-intensity fiscal innovation, and reinforce proactive administration, aiming to continuously promote administrative innovation.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “The year 2024 will be a year to establish the institutional foundation for Busan to become a global hub city and a true central city of the Republic of Korea, including the enactment of special laws.” He added, “I hope everyone will do their best to bring about active changes and creative innovations throughout the administration this year to enhance global capabilities across all sectors.”
Mayor Park also emphasized, “We will devote ourselves to stabilizing livelihoods and creating a vibrant economic ecosystem for the happy and comfortable lives of our citizens.”
