'The 2nd SI Global Internship Program' in Progress
From the 15th of this month to the 2nd of next month, over a period of three weeks, the Seoul Institute will conduct the '2nd SI Global Internship Program' for 10 overseas city officials currently enrolled in the Master's program in Urban Administration and Planning at the Graduate School of International Studies, University of Seoul.
On the 12th, the Seoul Institute announced on the 15th that it held a 'Global Internship Launch Ceremony' with the 10 participants at the Seoul Institute Auditorium.
Following the first operation in January last year, the second 'SI Global Internship' involves 10 overseas officials from 10 countries who will receive a practical capacity-building program to acquire the Seoul Institute's research achievements and Seoul City's excellent policies.
This year's internship participants are practitioners responsible for urban management and development from various countries, including a Development Planning Officer in charge of policy planning and budget allocation at the Ministry of Construction and Housing in Ghana, an Urban Administration Manager at Nakuru City Government in Kenya, and a Construction Officer in the Construction Department of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in Zambia. They have interests in various Seoul policies such as transportation digitalization, administration, environment, and urban planning.
Over the next three weeks, they will intensively study Seoul City's excellent policy cases, including the characteristics of Seoul's urban development, understanding key policies through the 2040 Urban Master Plan workshop, close mentoring, and field research visits that will provide a theoretical foundation. After the program ends, they will submit a 'Report on the Survey Results of Excellent Urban Policy Cases in Seoul' and share implications according to their areas of interest.
The Seoul Institute plans to connect mentors considering the participants' assigned tasks and areas of interest to help them effectively acquire Seoul's policy planning and research know-how in a short period and will actively support opportunities for field visits.
Yoon Hyuk-ryeol, Acting Director of the Seoul Institute, said, "Based on last year's achievements and the high satisfaction of participants, we are operating the 2nd Global Internship this year as well. We will take this program as a good opportunity to widely promote Seoul City's advanced policies to overseas officials and strengthen international partnerships, and even after the internship ends, we will continue policy research exchanges with them."
