Video Newsletter Read by Announcers and Signed by Professional Interpreters
Aiming to Support Information-Disadvantaged Groups and Eliminate Promotion Blind Spots
This Year’s Plan to Recruit and Operate ‘Gumin Actors’... Strengthening New Media Communication
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) will, for the first time this year, introduce the district administration through a “Gusu(hand and mouth) Newsletter” using speech and sign language on its official YouTube channel.
The “Yongsan-gu News” printed newsletter, published around the 25th of every month, will also be produced and posted as audiovisual videos to reduce blind spots in publicity and to easily deliver useful district administration news to information-vulnerable groups.
The Gusu Newsletter extracts important information from the monthly regular newsletter and produces videos enhanced with voice and sign language. An announcer from the district internet broadcasting station summarizes and reads the newsletter, and a professional interpreter conveys it in sign language.
The January Gusu Newsletter was uploaded to the official channel on the 5th. It delivered key information from the January issue of Yongsan-gu News “Hope Yongsan,” including ▲ New Year’s greetings from Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu ▲ 2024 budget formulation ▲ Yongsan Times (commencement of the comprehensive transportation system improvement plan service) ▲ Yongsan Magnifier (study cafe-type youth study rooms in Cheongpa-dong and Hangangno-dong) ▲ Yongsan Information (free job counseling phone service, etc.).
Netizens who watched the video left comments such as “The sign language is considerate” and “I can now access various information.”
At the end of the video, services such as ▲ Yongsan AlimTalk ▲ Yongsan-gu Office Kakao Channel ▲ Yongsan-gu News Nuri Magazine (webzine) ▲ newsletter subscription were introduced to promote convenient access to district news.
Yongsan AlimTalk is a service that compiles 5 to 7 district office projects and lifestyle information and sends them every Friday via Kakao AlimTalk. It allows residents to receive timely information on projects requiring application and seasonal tips.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “Many people miss out on benefits because they do not know useful information for themselves. We will carefully deliver district administration through various methods, including the Gusu Newsletter, to reach as many residents as possible without gaps.”
Meanwhile, the district plans to recruit resident actors this year to strengthen communication through the official YouTube channel. Resident actors will appear in the district’s official channel “Shorts” videos. In addition, to eliminate publicity blind spots and expand awareness of district promotional media, the district has been promoting the expansion of digital bulletin boards, outdoor advertisements at bus stops, and SNS channel events.
