Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) is recruiting participants for the "2024 Gijang-gun Residents' Health Promotion Project" until the 19th.
The "Gijang-gun Residents' Health Promotion Project" is a program that supports residents' health examination costs in collaboration with the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center to help residents lead healthy lives.
This year, a total of about 1,850 people will be selected (800 fully supported, 1,050 partially supported), and applications can be submitted at the five eup/myeon administrative welfare centers in Gijang-gun during the recruitment period. The selection results will be announced on the county website after the target selection committee meeting at the end of February.
Selected residents can choose between a comprehensive cancer screening or cerebrovascular examination and receive the screening at the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center.
Among them, seniors aged 65 and over, national veterans, recipients of basic livelihood security, low-income households, single-parent families, and registered disabled persons will receive full support of 800,000 KRW for the examination costs. Residents aged 40 and over who do not meet these conditions will receive 700,000 KRW in support, so participants only need to pay a 100,000 KRW co-payment to receive high-cost screenings.
Eligibility requires having a residence in Gijang-gun for more than three consecutive years as of the announcement date (December 26, 2023), or among those relocated from other regions due to nuclear power plant construction, those who had their resident registration in Gori, Hyoam-ri, or Gilcheon-ri in Jangan-eup before May 31, 2003, and lived there continuously for more than three years, aged 40 or older.
Additionally, foreigners who have registered as foreign residents in Gijang-gun and have continuously stayed for more than three years, and who are married to Korean nationals and are aged 40 or older, are also eligible to apply.
A Gijang-gun official stated, "As we enter the era of centenarians, interest in healthy living is increasing, and the foundation of maintaining health is prevention. We expect this project to help reduce the financial burden of health examinations and enable early detection of diseases through screenings, contributing to residents leading healthy lives."
Through the Gijang-gun Residents' Health Promotion Project, Gijang-gun has invested 1 billion KRW annually over the past 14 years in county funds, supporting about 13 billion KRW in examination costs, and by 2023, approximately 20,000 residents have received support for their examination expenses.
