The Era of 'Air-like AI' Will Begin
At CES 2024, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, the concept of ‘AI as ubiquitous as air’ permeating business sites and everyday consumer lifestyles was emphasized.
On the 12th, Samjong KPMG published a report titled ‘Future Industry Trends Seen Through CES 2024,’ presenting the keyword ‘D.R.A.G.O.N’ to capture the essence of CES 2024 in the Year of the Blue Dragon. The focus was on Digital Healthcare, Robotics, Automobile, Generative AI, On-device AI, and ESG including Net Zero.
First held in 1967, CES was hosted this year under the theme ‘All Together. All On.’, which signifies applying advanced technologies across all industries to solve global challenges. More than 4,000 companies from 150 countries participated. Korea ranked third with over 760 companies participating, the highest ever after the US and China.
In the digital healthcare field, many real-time personalized care products utilizing AI technology were launched. Korean company InBody exhibited the InBody Solution, which uses big data analysis to inform not only current but future body composition changes, showing a move to expand its business area to become a ‘solution provider.’
In robotics, technologies expanding beyond industrial sites into consumers’ daily lives were showcased. LG Electronics demonstrated robot products usable in hotels and retail stores, while Doosan Robotics unveiled a robotic arm-based resource recycling solution, winning an innovation award.
As one in five CES participating companies were automotive-related, reflecting its reputation as a ‘global auto show,’ cutting-edge mobility technologies were exhibited. Supernal, Hyundai Motor Group’s independent future aerial mobility (AAM) subsidiary, unveiled a full-scale model of the next-generation aircraft ‘S-A2’ for the first time at CES 2024 and announced strategies for building a future AAM ecosystem.
Following last year, big tech companies showed expansion into the automotive industry value chain. Google demonstrated an integrated control system that allows vehicle control via cars equipped with the vehicle AI assistant ‘Google Assistant’ and smartphones. Amazon also introduced a vehicle AI assistant model based on large language models (LLM) capable of answering complex questions related to vehicles and driving.
Various platforms and solutions incorporating generative AI technology were introduced. Samsung SDS unveiled generative AI services ‘Brity Copilot’ and ‘FABRICS,’ which enhance work convenience and productivity within the company, while Google showcased solutions integrating generative AI technology with Google Workspace, Google Messages, and more.
Samsung Electronics presented a core memory portfolio centered on on-device AI at CES 2024, and AI was applied to various other devices, proposing a lifestyle where AI is naturally utilized across diverse industries and everyday life.
Efforts by global companies to achieve carbon neutrality were observed throughout the CES venue. In particular, SK Group focused on Net Zero at this CES, introducing carbon reduction technologies and projects pursued by its affiliates such as SK Innovation and SK Ecoplant. The SK exhibition hall featured a hydrogen fuel cell train experience. The report explained, “Corporate strategies for ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) implementation are becoming more sophisticated.”
Additionally, Samjong KPMG analyzed ten major trends emphasized at CES 2024: ▲AI ▲Robotics ▲Mobility ▲Smart Home ▲Metaverse & Web 3.0 ▲Digital Healthcare ▲ESG ▲Food Tech ▲Space Tech ▲Startups, examining notable innovative products, technologies, and business issues by sector. In the smart home sector, transparent displays such as Samsung Electronics’ transparent micro LED TV and LG Electronics’ wireless transparent OLED TV ‘LG Signature OLED T’ attracted attention.
Seunghoon Yeom, Leader (Vice President) of Samjong KPMG’s Electronics, Information & Communication, and Entertainment Industry, said, “As business model advancement around AI is expected to accelerate this year, CES 2024 showed how companies’ strategies to utilize AI in business are reflected in various advanced technologies and products,” adding, “The era of ‘AI as ubiquitous as air,’ integrated into industrial sites and consumer lifestyles, will open, making AI present everywhere in daily life.”
