KOSPI Falls Amid Net Selling by Foreign and Institutional Investors

The KOSPI fell due to net selling by foreigners and institutions.


On the 11th, the KOSPI closed at 2,540.27, down 1.71 points (0.07%) from the previous trading day.


On that day, the index started higher and extended its gains in the afternoon, rising to 2,557.30. However, as foreigners and institutions switched to net selling near the end of the session, the index ultimately closed lower.


By investor type, individuals were net buyers with 705.5 billion KRW. In contrast, foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 378.5 billion KRW and 342.3 billion KRW, respectively.


By sector, food and beverages, electricity and gas, chemicals, and insurance fell more than 1%. Meanwhile, securities rose 1.37%.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 73,200 KRW, down 400 KRW (0.54%) from the previous trading day. Samsung C&T also fell 1.78%. On the other hand, SK Hynix and LG Energy Solution rose 1.87% and 1.22%, respectively.


On the KOSPI, 438 stocks rose, including two stocks such as Hanwha Investment & Securities that hit the upper price limit. Meanwhile, 442 stocks fell without hitting the lower price limit, and 59 stocks remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ closed at 882.53, up 7.07 points (0.81%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions were net buyers of 80.9 billion KRW and 76.7 billion KRW, respectively. Conversely, individuals were net sellers of 158.5 billion KRW. By sector, finance and telecommunications equipment rose 4.70% and 4.31%, respectively, while telecommunications services also jumped 3.28%. General electric appliances rose 2.18%. On the other hand, other manufacturing fell 0.69%, and broadcasting services, IT components, information devices, and machinery equipment declined slightly.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM closed at 306,000 KRW, up 12,500 KRW (4.26%) from the previous trading day. EcoPro also surged 4.68%. Pearl Abyss and HPSP rose 2.14% and 1.19%, respectively. Conversely, LS Materials fell 4.55%, and Alteogen dropped 3.70%. In addition, Rino Industrial declined 2.87%, while Rainbow Robotics and Classys fell more than 1%.


On the KOSDAQ that day, 926 stocks rose, including six stocks such as Daesung Venture Investment and Wizit that hit the upper price limit. Meanwhile, 608 stocks fell without hitting the lower price limit, and 101 stocks remained unchanged.
