Expansion of 'Large Print Bills' in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is expanding the application of the ‘Easy-to-Read Large Font Notices,’ introduced as part of its life-oriented policies.

Expansion of 'Large Print Bills' in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju

The district introduced the ‘Easy-to-Read Large Font Notices’ starting from the second installment of automobile tax last year to address the issues of existing notices, which had font sizes that were too small and contained too much information, making it difficult for citizens to identify the necessary information and content.

The key features include enlarging the font size and placing the main content in the center of the notice so that elderly taxpayers and citizens with poor eyesight can easily check and understand the information.

The effect was significant. Since the issuance of the ‘Easy-to-Read Large Font Notices,’ simple inquiries related to tax payments and information verification have greatly decreased, enabling the provision of highly satisfactory tax administration services.

Accordingly, the district plans to expand the application to automobile tax prepayment notices this year and to the regular registration and license tax notices in January 2024.

Automobile tax prepayment is a system where taxpayers who prepay the automobile tax, which is regularly imposed in June and December every year, in January receive a discount of about 4.58% on the annual amount.

The district sent out 170,000 prepayment notices applying the ‘Easy-to-Read Large Font’ format.

The registration and license tax targets those who hold various licenses such as permits, approvals, registrations, and designations as of January 1.

This local tax is imposed at a fixed rate ranging from 18,000 KRW to 67,500 KRW, classified into five types depending on the license type and scale. In January of this year, 1.935 billion KRW (42,091 cases) was imposed.

On the 11th, Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, stated, “We will continue to actively discover and implement life-oriented policies that citizens can feel and be satisfied with.”
