Hanyang University Alumni Association Selects Recipients of the 'Proud Hanyangin Award'

Awards Ceremony to Be Held at Alumni Hall on the 16th

The Hanyang University Alumni Association announced on the 11th that the recipients of the ‘2023 Proud Hanyangin Awards’ are Hwang Ho-yeon, Chairman of Daeho IR, Kim Dong-ik, Professor at Samsung Seoul Hospital, Son Hyun-duk, CEO of Maeil Business Newspaper, and Yoon Sung-tae, Chairman of Huons Group. The award ceremony will be held on the 16th at the Hanyang University Alumni Hall.

Hwang Ho-yeon, Chairman of Daeho IR, graduated from Hanyang University’s Department of Ceramic Engineering (Class of ’60). He has dedicated his life to ceramics, developing red tiles for block house exteriors and salt field tiles, earning recognition as the top authority in the domestic tile industry. Since 1988, he has been publishing magazines and monographs in the field of ceramic materials, promoting advanced ceramic technologies.


Kim Dong-ik, Professor at Samsung Seoul Hospital, graduated from Hanyang University’s College of Medicine (Class of ’78) and earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in medicine from the same university’s graduate school. He is a distinguished scholar and renowned expert who has led the advancement of vascular surgery in South Korea and achieved world-class research outcomes. In 2018, he was selected as a full member of the Korean Academy of Medicine, an honor bestowed on only the top 5% of medical professionals in the country.


Son Hyun-duk, CEO (Vice President) of Maeil Business Newspaper, graduated from Hanyang University’s Department of Economics (Class of ’79) and earned a master’s degree in economics from the graduate school. He joined Maeil Business Newspaper in 1988 and has served as Washington correspondent, head of the economics department, political department head, industry department head, editor-in-chief, editorial director, and chief columnist.


Yoon Sung-tae, Chairman of Huons Group, graduated from Hanyang University’s Department of Industrial Engineering (Class of ’83) and earned a master’s degree in project management from the graduate school. In 1997, he transformed Kwangmyung Pharmaceutical (now Huons), which had sales of 8 billion KRW, into a total healthcare group with sales of 660 billion KRW and over ten subsidiaries. Currently, the company operates across the healthcare industry, focusing on pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aesthetics, and health functional foods.
