Statistics Korea, 2024 'Time Use Survey'
Understanding Actual Time Utilization
First Conducted in 1999... 6th Edition This Year
The Statistics Korea will conduct the '2024 Time Use Survey' to incorporate changes in citizens' daily lives into policy.
The Time Use Survey is a study that examines how everyone utilizes the equally allotted time, first conducted in 1999, and this year marks its 6th iteration. It is carried out by having household members aged 10 and above in a nationwide sample household fill out a time diary at 10-minute intervals over two days.
This year, Statistics Korea added 'spring (March)' for the first time and will conduct the survey four times in total, allowing for a balanced reflection of time use and lifestyle across weekdays, weekends, and seasons. In the 2019 Time Use Survey, average sleep time was recorded as 8 hours and 12 minutes; from this survey onward, it will be possible to compare changes in citizens' sleep time across all four seasons.
Additionally, analyses on ▲childcare by dual-income couples ▲daily life of the elderly to support aging ▲students' study time to devise measures to reduce private education are expected to be utilized for detailed policy-making targeting government interest groups, discovering new business sectors for companies, and various research by experts.
Lee Hyung-il, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, stated, "We ask for the active interest and participation of the public in this important survey that allows us to examine the accelerating digitalization of our daily lives since the recent COVID-19 pandemic through statistics."
