Establishment of a 5-Year Tourism Revitalization Plan... Vision Presented as 'Yongsan, the Starting Point of Seoul Tourism'
30 Detailed Projects Under Four Major Strategies: Culture & Arts, Safe Tourism, International Tourism, and Eco-Friendly Tourism
Enactment of Tourism Promotion Ordinance, Production of Tourism Promotional Videos... Preparation for Distribution of Tourist Guide Maps
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) has established and begun implementing a tourism revitalization plan through 2027, marking a full-scale entry into establishing itself as an international tourist city.
Based on the service completed last year, this tourism revitalization promotion plan was established under the vision of "Yongsan, the Starting Point of Seoul Tourism," setting four major strategies: ▲Culture and Arts ▲Safe Tourism ▲International Tourism ▲Eco-friendliness, and deriving 16 core tasks. The plan aims to complete these through the promotion of 30 detailed projects.
To transform into a tourist city where culture and arts harmonize, efforts will be made to discover tourism courses utilizing local historical and cultural resources such as the National Museum of Korea and Yongsan History Museum, seek ways to revitalize water performance venues, and provide customized tourism guidance services. In particular, preparations are underway to establish the Yongsan Cultural Foundation to professionally enhance the connectivity between culture and tourism.
For safe tourism, measures such as crowd density analysis through closed-circuit television (CCTV) for crowd management, operation of dispersion guidance programs to prepare for visitor surges, and creation of pedestrian-friendly environments will be promoted.
To raise the brand value of Yongsan-gu as an international tourist city visited by people worldwide, activities include conducting invitation promotional trips (fam tours) targeting foreign tourists, developing souvenirs utilizing tourist attractions, and reviewing the expansion or additional designation of tourism special zones.
Yongsan-gu also aims to be an eco-friendly tourist city. The plan is to actively utilize local natural landscapes such as Namsan and Yongsan Family Park to offer nature and relaxation within the urban area.
Along with this promotion plan, the enactment of the "Yongsan-gu Tourism Promotion Ordinance" in December last year has provided a legal basis to improve tourism conditions and foster related industries. A district official stated, "While maximizing the use of tourism resources, the development of various tourism products has also become possible, which is expected to attract more tourists and contribute to the local commercial district."
Based on these ordinances and the promotion plan, the district aims to increase the number of foreign tourists by up to 20% by 2027 and achieve an overall tourism competitiveness ranking of third place.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "We have established a five-year plan to create a tourism brand that reflects the unique characteristics of our district and to become a premium tourist destination. Moving forward, we will develop competitive tourism content and implement various tourism policies to create a tourism environment that realizes the value of coexistence."
Meanwhile, the district produced a tourism promotional video titled "All Day, New Day" and released it on its official YouTube and SNS channels. The video introduces representative attractions and food such as Namsan, Haebangchon, Ichon Hangang Park, and Itaewon Tourism Special Zone, capturing the charm of local tourism. Additionally, tourism guide maps in four languages?Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese?were produced. These maps contain tourism information to help domestic and international tourists visiting Yongsan easily utilize them.
