The prosecution investigating allegations of organized perjury in the trial of Kim Yong, former deputy director of the Democratic Research Institute and close aide to Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has requested arrest warrants for individuals from Lee's presidential campaign team.
The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kang Baek-shin) filed arrest warrants on the 9th against Park and Seo, who served as situation room chiefs for Lee's presidential election campaign, on charges of perjury inducement. Park was also charged with using forged evidence.
They are accused of asking Lee, who served as the head of the Gyeonggi-do Market Promotion Agency around April last year, to testify a 'false alibi' regarding violations of the Political Funds Act in Kim's trial. The prosecution believes Lee committed perjury during the trial held in May last year.
The prosecution has determined that Park, along with Lee and Kim's defense attorney, Lawyer Lee, manipulated a schedule of dates on which Kim allegedly received money and submitted it to the court.
