Seocho-gu Launches 'Weekly Fine Dust Forecast Automatic Text Alert Service'

Ddingdong~ “Seocho 2-dong weekly fine dust forecast”

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) conducts a daily 5 PM local customized ‘Weekly Fine Dust Forecast Automatic Text Alert Service’ to protect residents' health from fine dust and support safe outdoor activities.

Since 2021, the district has provided precise fine dust levels and weekly fine dust forecast information by administrative dong through the ‘Seocho-gu Smart City App’ and website, utilizing its self-developed IoT-based fine dust detailed measurement system called the ‘Integrated Air Environment Management System.’ By linking 108 air environment measuring devices installed throughout the area to subdivide the fine dust measurement range, it has offered more accurate information, receiving great responses from residents.

The newly implemented ‘Weekly Fine Dust Forecast Automatic Text Alert Service’ allows residents to receive detailed fine dust information based on the ‘Integrated Air Environment Management System’ every day at 5 PM simply by applying for text message reception without any other procedures.

The text message includes ▲fine dust and ultrafine dust levels for the relevant dong ▲behavioral guidelines during high fine dust concentration, and other region-specific fine dust information. It continuously provides fine dust information for six days starting the day after the text reception date.

This service aims to conveniently and promptly provide related information especially to digitally vulnerable groups such as the elderly who had difficulty checking fine dust information via apps or websites, as well as to facilities for infants and young children planning outdoor activities and construction sites where large amounts of fine dust are generated.

First, in line with the implementation period of the ‘5th Fine Dust Seasonal Management Plan,’ since the 4th of this month, text messages have been sent to about 70 facilities used by fine dust vulnerable groups such as daycare centers and senior citizen centers.

Starting next month, the service will be extended to construction site managers to guide them to adjust the timing of dust-generating processes and strengthen water spraying measures.

Additionally, weekly forecasts will be provided to departments related to fine dust reduction to plan and operate routes for water spraying trucks and dust suction vehicles in advance, enabling efficient removal of road fine dust. The district plans to expand the service so that more residents can use the text alert service in the future.

Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “We will prepare various measures to protect residents' health from fine dust and improve the air environment to create ‘Seocho, a clean city where it is easy to breathe.’”
