This is a round-trip course of about 5.8 km following the mountain visible when getting off at Yaksu Station. The round-trip takes nearly 2 hours. Walking along the city, the path where the Han River suddenly comes into view is perfect for a leisurely stroll in the urban area.
The starting point is Exit 4 of Yaksu Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. This place borders Eungbongsan, which is the boundary with Oksu-dong. Although Eungbongsan is only 81 meters high, it has been famous for its beautiful surrounding scenery since ancient times. During the Joseon Dynasty, kings used to release falcons here for hunting, which is why it was also called Maebongsan. In the Joseon era, an ice storage called Binggo (氷庫) was installed in the south; since it was located to the east compared to Seobinggo (West Binggo), it was called Dongbinggo (East Binggo).
Every January 1st, the mountain summit is crowded with local residents who come to watch the sunrise. There is a trail around the mountain, so if you have time, it is good to take a walk.
Before reaching the main trail, you pass through a villa village built on a steep slope. Although it looks challenging at first glance, once you reach the trail, the slope is almost flat, making it a course that even beginners can easily enjoy.
It is also suitable for those who value scenic views. This is because there is the 'Eungbongsan Photo Island,' a prime viewpoint selected by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. After passing Eungbongsan Photo Island, you will soon come across a suspension bridge. Beyond this is Eungbongsan Pavilion, widely known as a filming location for several dramas. It is a place where you can take in panoramic views of Apgujeong-dong, Cheongdam-dong, Banpo-dong, and Jamwon-dong, the Gangnam area of Seoul.
Eungbongsan Pavilion, which offers a panoramic view of the Han River, Seoul Forest, and the eastern part of Seoul, is also a famous sunrise spot where Seongdong-gu, Seoul, held the '2024 Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival' on the morning of the 1st. You can overlook the Han River, Seoul Forest, and the eastern region of Seoul all at once.
