Ulsan R&D Business Valley Connecting Road Construction Project Selected for Preliminary Feasibility Study

Ulsan Ulju-gun Samnam-eup Gyodong-ri and Gacheon-ri Area

Length 4,474 km, Width 20 m, 4-Lane Road

Connected to High-Tech Valley Industrial Complex and KTX Station Area

Ulsan's "R&D Business Valley Connecting Road Construction Project" was selected as a preliminary feasibility study target project at the first Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee meeting of the Ministry of Economy and Finance this year on the 5th.

Accordingly, Ulsan City is expected to gain momentum in revitalizing investment attraction and systematically developing the Seoulsan area’s main district.

The R&D Business Valley connecting road is a road that links the High-Tech Valley Industrial Complex in Gacheon-ri, Samnam-eup, Ulju-gun, with the KTX station area.

A total project cost of 92.3 billion KRW will be invested, and it will be constructed as a four-lane road with a total length of 4.474 km and a width of 20 meters.

Currently, the only road connecting this area is National Route 35, which will have difficulty handling the traffic volume (23,276 vehicles/day) between the High-Tech Valley Industrial Complex, scheduled for completion in 2026, and the KTX station area. Therefore, establishing an east-west connecting road network is essential to alleviate traffic congestion and improve mobility and accessibility between regions.

Ulsan City applied for preliminary feasibility studies twice in 2021 and 2022 but was not selected due to reasons such as lack of urgency and non-reflection in the national plan.

To address the reasons for non-selection, Ulsan City emphasized the urgency of road construction by advancing the KTX station area development project, the KTX station area complex specialized district development project, and the Sangcheon logistics complex construction project.

Additionally, the designation of the High-Tech Valley Industrial Complex as a national advanced strategic industry (secondary battery) specialized district on July 20 last year was highlighted, leading to the successful selection as a preliminary feasibility study target project.

An official from Ulsan City said, “Once this connecting road is established, the mobility and accessibility of the High-Tech Valley Industrial Complex, KTX station area, and UNIST value chain will improve, which is expected to revitalize investment attraction and systematically develop the main district of the Seoulsan area.”
