Winter Energy Consulting Project Runs Until February 29... Thermal Imaging Cameras Measure Heat Loss Followed by Practical Energy Efficiency Tips... Low-Income and Near-Poverty Groups Linked to ‘Low-Income Home Repair Project’ for Housing Improvement
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it is conducting the "2024 Our Home Energy Consulting" project, which identifies the causes of heat loss in homes, provides diagnostics, and supports simple insulation measures.
This project has been carried out every winter since 2011 in cooperation with the social enterprise Nowon-gu Home Repair Center. It aims to improve heating efficiency by preventing indoor heat loss in aging houses and apartments with poor insulation performance. The district expects this project to reduce residents' heating costs and decrease the use of fossil fuels in daily life.
Residents of Nowon-gu can apply regardless of the type of housing, including multi-family houses, detached houses, and apartments, and the consulting service is free of charge.
The consulting is conducted thoroughly through on-site visits by inspection teams composed of two members: one public official and one staff member from the Nowon-gu Home Repair Center. The inspection team uses thermal imaging cameras to focus on areas prone to heat loss such as windows, walls, and entrances.
Afterward, the inspection team provides applicants with a report detailing the heat loss points and specific causes, and offers consulting on simple and affordable insulation methods for everyday life using materials like air cap film and draft stoppers.
If the heat loss rate is excessively high and cannot be remedied by on-site measures alone, requiring home repairs, low-income recipients or near-poverty groups who find the costs burdensome can receive additional support through linked construction support projects such as the ▲Energy Efficiency Improvement Project and ▲Nowon-gu Small-scale Home Repair Project for Low-income Households.
Supported work types include up to 13 categories such as insulation, windows, flooring, and boilers. The Energy Efficiency Improvement Project provides support up to 3.3 million KRW per household, while the Nowon-gu Small-scale Home Repair Project for Low-income Households supports up to 1 million KRW per household.
The application period for energy consulting is until February 29. Applications can be submitted directly at the district office’s Welfare Policy Division or local community service centers, or online through the district’s website.
Meanwhile, the district is also implementing a project to replace old boilers with eco-friendly boilers that have high energy efficiency. The support targets vulnerable groups replacing 'residential' boilers installed before April 3, 2020, with eco-friendly boilers.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “With both electricity and gas prices rising, many households are worried about heating costs. I hope this energy consulting project will greatly help residents in their daily lives by reducing heating expenses.”
