The year of the Dragon, Gapjin, has dawned. The dragon, one of the Four Guardians protecting the cardinal directions, is regarded as a symbol of auspiciousness.
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will introduce new policies and systems to be implemented this year through "2024 Newly Changed Life in Yeongdeungpo," aiming to create a new year where people’s livelihoods soar like a vigorously flying dragon.
The district plans to solidify the capabilities of its administration, which have been steadily developed, to revitalize the local economy and further strengthen the foundation of "Hope, Happiness, and Future City Yeongdeungpo."
"2024 Newly Changed Life in Yeongdeungpo" encompasses a total of 67 policies across five major areas: ▲Residential City ▲Economic City ▲Future Education City ▲Cultural City ▲Welfare City.
◆Premium Residential City
▲Establishment of a Comprehensive Development Master Plan for the Gyeongbu Line Area
The district will establish a "Comprehensive Development Master Plan for the Gyeongbu Line Area" alongside the enactment of the "Railroad Underground Special Act." The "iron curtain" Gyeongbu Line, which has divided Yeongdeungpo for 120 years, will be relocated underground, and a proactive development plan for the space above the railroad will be prepared together with experts and residents to envision new growth for Yeongdeungpo.
▲Expansion of Redevelopment and Reconstruction Consultation Centers
Efforts will focus on accelerating redevelopment and reconstruction. Additional "Visiting Redevelopment and Reconstruction Consultation Centers" will be opened to provide residents with accurate information on redevelopment and reconstruction, speeding up previously stalled projects.
▲Creating a Safe Residential Environment by Managing Hazardous Trees Around Living Areas
A new "Hazardous Tree Management Support Project" will be launched to maintain hazardous trees in residential areas and surroundings. This will prevent accidents and damage caused by natural disasters such as strong winds and heavy rains, protect residents’ safety, and improve the city’s aesthetics.

▲Customized Hygiene Consulting for Elderly Business Operators
Customized hygiene consulting tailored to elderly restaurant operators will be provided. This aims to offer practical assistance to small-scale restaurants and become a reliable supporter for small business owners.
▲Establishment of an Integrated Job Center
The district will establish an "Integrated Job Center" to provide public and private job information focused on job seekers such as seniors, people with disabilities, women with career interruptions, and vulnerable groups. Various customized employment support measures will also be implemented to alleviate job-seeking difficulties.
▲Strengthening Youth Employment Competitiveness
To enhance youth employment capabilities and ease economic burdens, the district supports obtaining national certifications. It provides aptitude test preparation lectures and covers various certification exam fees to help young people become self-reliant.
◆Premium Future Education City Embracing Everyone from Children to Seniors
▲Operation of the Digital Companion Plaza
The district operates the "Digital Companion Plaza," a digital learning center for adults. Residents can learn practical skills such as banking, delivery ordering, train ticket booking, taxi calling, and mobile app usage, as well as enjoy hobbies using digital devices.
▲Full-scale Operation of the Yeongdeungpo Education Control Tower, the "Future Education Foundation"
Through the "Future Education Foundation," efforts will be intensified to nurture scientific future talents in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution, create a premium lifelong education city, and realize inclusive education for the vulnerable. As the control tower of education policy, differentiated education policies will be implemented.
▲Science Culture Vouchers for Children and Adolescents
Science culture vouchers will be provided to underprivileged groups to access science exhibitions, books, performances, and programs at national and public science museums and science culture institutions.
◆City Overflowing with Culture
▲Creation of Barefoot Clay Road along Anyangcheon
A 1.2 km "Barefoot Clay Road" will be created along the embankment walking trail of Anyangcheon. Foot washing stations and shoe racks will also be installed to enhance convenience for residents.
▲Establishment of Dorim-dong Life Culture Center
To activate residents’ life culture and expand cultural enjoyment opportunities, a "Life Culture Center" will be established. The center will include community facilities, music and dance practice rooms, and studios.
▲Creation of a "Resident-Friendly Garden" in Mullae-dong
A "Resident-Friendly Garden" featuring culture and relaxation will be created in the public open space of Mullae-dong. Facilities such as flower gardens, circular walking paths, year-round lawns, cotton fields, children’s sand playgrounds, and outdoor exercise equipment will be installed to serve as a healing, cultural, and leisure space for residents. Once the "Yeongdeungpo Mullae Arts Center" is built, the area will be maximally utilized as a support zone for residents.
◆Welfare City Walking Together with the Vulnerable
▲Expansion of Rest System for Caregiver Families
The "Caregiver Family Rest System," where volunteers visit dementia households to provide gap care and give families a break, will be expanded. This year, the program will extend beyond dementia to include households affected by stroke, diabetes, and other geriatric diseases, preparing for care demands in the super-aged era and establishing a community-integrated care network.
▲Expansion of First Meeting Voucher and Parental Allowance Support
Yeongdeungpo, a child-friendly district, will significantly reduce the economic burden of parenting. The "First Meeting Voucher" will be expanded to 2 million KRW for the first child and 3 million KRW for the second child. The "Parental Allowance" will also increase from 700,000 KRW to 1 million KRW for 0-11 months and from 350,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW for 12-23 months.
▲Creation of Seoul Imagination Land
"Seoul Imagination Land," a complex cultural experience facility for children, will be built on the site of Dangsan public parking lot. Through play, experience, and exhibition programs, it will help promote creativity and emotional and physical development of infants and children.
