The Buk-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City paid a visit to the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery as their first official schedule of the new year to pay respects.
On the morning of the 4th, 20 Buk-gu council members laid flowers and offered incense in front of the Memorial Tower at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery. They honored the spirits of the patriots who peacefully passed away for democracy on this land and paid tribute to their noble sacrifices.
Afterwards, the council members moved to Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town to volunteer in meal service, taking care of the seniors' lunch and exchanging New Year greetings.
Chairman Kim Hyung-su said, “I feel proud to start the first official schedule of the new year with social contribution activities, and at the same time, it served as an opportunity to reflect on the duties of a council member.” He added, “The 9th Buk-gu Council, now in its third year, will take today as a stepping stone and do its best to eliminate welfare blind spots and spread a culture of sharing.”
