Traditional Experiences like Jangdo Gungsi, and Winter Night View Courses
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do has unveiled a January travel course targeting the trend where unique experiences and activities are becoming the core values of travel, as well as a fulfilling winter vacation.
The city announced that it recommends three distinctive travel courses considering routes and required time: a half-day course, a day course, and a 1-night 2-day course.
The half-day course, "Half a Day in Gwangyang," includes Gwangyang Booyoung International Ice Rink ~ Gwangyang Bulgogi Specialty Street ~ Inseori Park ~ Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art & Gwangyang Art Warehouse ~ Multiplex LF Square.
Gwangyang Booyoung International Ice Rink is the largest year-round indoor ice rink in Jeonnam, open 365 days a year, providing an activity space where the whole family can enjoy a fun and healthy winter.
After enjoying skating, you cannot miss the pleasure of dining at Gwangyang’s restaurants that satisfy all five senses, including the Gwangyang Bulgogi Specialty Street.
Inseori Park, which retains the tranquil charm of a quiet alley, is a cozy complex cultural space equipped with exhibitions, printmaking experiences, a book caf?, and stay facilities, making it a hot place popular among the MZ generation.
At the Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, high-quality exhibitions such as the invitational exhibition by Hwang Young-sung "Stories of the Cosmic Family," the planned exhibition by Song Pil-yong "Narrative of Water," and the donated works exhibition "Poetic Abstraction" are attracting the attention and expectations of art lovers.
LF Square, a complex cultural space equipped with a cinema, large bookstore, and shopping mall, offers the fun of malling where you can enjoy leisure activities such as play, dining, and movies all in one place.
The day course, "A Whole Day in Gwangyang," is themed around warm relaxation that melts the cold and dry winter, and includes Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art & Gwangyang Art Warehouse ~ Gwangyang Bulgogi or Gwangyang Chicken Charcoal Grill ~ Inseori Park ~ Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest (Healing Forest, Wood Culture Experience Center) ~ Hajonara Experience Course.
Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest is a healing space that welcomes citizens and tourists all year round, operating various programs such as the Healing Forest and Wood Culture Experience Center.
Hajonara, a forest book caf? reminiscent of Finland, offers a cozy space with a fireplace where you can enjoy tea and reading or make your own wood-fired pizza by preparing the dough and toppings yourself.
The 1-night 2-day course, "A Night Counting Stars in Gwangyang," allows you to experience traditional crafts imbued with artisan spirit such as Jangdo and Gungsi, historical figures like Yun Dong-ju and Kim Yeo-ik, and beautiful night views that showcase the true essence of Gwangyang.
On the first day, the course includes Kim Sisik Site ~ Mangdeok Port Food Town ~ Jeong Byeong-wook House preserving Yun Dong-ju’s manuscripts, Yun Dong-ju Poetry Garden ~ Baealdo Island Garden ~ Gubongsan Observatory ~ Yi Sun-sin Bridge, offering a starry night in Gwangyang.
On the second day, the itinerary concludes the 1-night 2-day journey with Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, Gwangyang Art Warehouse ~ Gwangyang Bulgogi Specialty Street (lunch) ~ Inseori Park ~ Gwangyang Jangdo Museum ~ Gwangyang Gungsi Exhibition and Education Center.
The Kim Sisik Site in Gwangyang is the world’s first place commemorating the history and location of seaweed cultivation, where visitors can learn everything about seaweed, including the cultivation process and its names.
The Gwangyang Jangdo Museum continues the legacy of the national intangible cultural asset No. 60, Jangdojang (decorative knife master), serving as a spiritual cultural space where the spirit of dedication is passed down through three generations, making it an essential course for modern people living in a rapidly changing era.
Jangdo (decorative knife) is a small knife with a sheath, created through 177 processes at temperatures above 1,000°C, and the craft or person who makes jangdo is called a Jangdojang.
Last year, it appeared as a key prop driving the story in the human historical drama "Lovers," set against the backdrop of the Byeongjahoran War, depicting the vitality of the people and the tragic love of lovers, captivating viewers at home.
