Emphasizing AI to Employees at Town Hall Meeting
Recruitment of AI Experts and External Personnel
"In the future, humanity will be divided into those who dominate artificial intelligence (AI) and those who know nothing about AI. (Kim Young-seop, CEO of KT)"
KT has kicked off the new year of the Gapjin year by accelerating AI technology development. Kim Young-seop, CEO of KT, recruited external experts and emphasized AI innovation to employees.
According to KT on the 4th, Kim held a town hall meeting at the KT Gwanghwamun East building on the 3rd and stressed, "The entire organization, beyond individuals, must innovate with AI." He urged, "KT employees need to increase their interest in AI and continuously consider how the way they currently handle tasks would change if done through AI."
On the day of the town hall meeting, KT appointed Executive Director Yoon Kyung-ah as head of the AI Tech Lab in the Technology Innovation Division. Executive Director Yoon is an expert in AI, big data, and cloud technologies, having worked at SK Telecom and Hyundai Card, rivals in the telecommunications industry. Unlike the existing AI2XLab, which is responsible for establishing AI and big data governance and developing future core technologies, the AI Tech Lab was newly established in the organizational restructuring following Kim Young-seop’s inauguration at the end of November last year. It focuses on developing customer-centric AI application technologies, services, and platforms based on the super-large AI ‘Mideum’.
With this, both of KT’s AI research institutes are now led by female executives. The existing AI2XLab continues to be led by Director Bae Soon-min (Executive Director).
KT also recruited former prosecutor Chu Ui-jung as head of the Audit Office and Executive Director Heo Tae-won as head of the Compliance Promotion Office. Former Executive Director Chu, who served as chief of the Criminal Division 1 at the Gimcheon branch of Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office, has experience working as a prosecutor seconded to the Korea Communications Commission. Executive Director Heo, also a former prosecutor, served as an outside director and audit committee member at Netmarble.
