[One Day Ten Thousand Steps] 740 Million Steps Donated by Jungjin Gong, Let's Walk Together Again This Year

737.27 million steps. This is the number of steps donated by the Small and Medium Business Corporation (SBC) last year. To achieve carbon neutrality, SBC employees and citizens participated together, setting walking goals in two phases and conducting campaigns, all of which exceeded their targets. The carbon reduction effect reached 67.5 tons. SBC plans to continue related campaigns this year as well.

On the 4th, SBC announced plans to continue step donation events in various ways this year. This follows positive evaluations as the 'Together Value, Carbon Neutral Step Donation' and 'I Drew, Green City Step Donation' campaigns conducted last year achieved results beyond their goals. First, the 'Together Value, Carbon Neutral Step Donation' held in March achieved 545.4 million steps, which is 1212% of the 45 million step goal. The goal was set at 45 million steps to commemorate the 45% carbon emission reduction target by 2030 and Arbor Day on April 5, but the number of steps far exceeded this target.

The step donation campaign utilized 'BigWalk.' BigWalk is an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) platform that donates steps and carries out eco-friendly missions. From March 6 to 24, a total of 14,444 people, including 912 SBC employees, participated, and the donated steps converted to distance amounted to 381,785 km. The carbon reduction effect was calculated at 49.9 tons. In terms of energy savings, this equals 414,313 kWh. This is equivalent to planting up to 12,085 30-year-old pine trees.

In October, SBC conducted the 'I Drew, Green City Step Donation' campaign. This was to internalize the institution’s awareness of eco-friendliness and carbon neutrality in line with government policies such as the 2050 carbon neutrality goal. Recognizing the need for community-wide expansion efforts, SBC collaborated with BigWalk to measure steps and conducted the campaign by collecting steps donated by employees and local residents.

The goal was 103 million steps, but over the 24-day campaign, 191.87 million steps were achieved, which is 188% of the target. A total of 5,660 people, including 768 SBC employees, donated steps. When converted to distance, the total steps equal 134,308 km, with a carbon reduction effect of 17.6 tons and energy savings of 145,751 kWh. SBC explained that this is equivalent to planting 4,251 pine trees. An SBC official stated, "We will continue to lead various activities to realize eco-friendly carbon neutrality this year as well."
