Haman-gun Hosts the 13th Haman Gotgam Festival Loved Even by the King

"Come Taste the Premium 'Haman Gotgam'"

Haman-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 3rd that the "13th Haman Gotgam Festival" will be held for three days from the 12th to the 14th at the Haman Gymnasium area.

Haman Gotgam is famous as a premium dried persimmon that even kings admired.

Organized by the Haman Gotgam Festival Committee, the Haman Gotgam Festival will feature various events that visitors can enjoy together for three days, including ▲making dried persimmon rolled rice cakes ▲various experience programs ▲dried persimmon auctions ▲celebratory performances.

On the first day of the festival, the 12th, the opening ceremony will start at 2 p.m., followed by sales events and preliminary rounds of on-site singing contests. On the 13th, experience programs and dried persimmon auctions, among other events, will take place. On the 14th, diverse events such as congratulatory performances by invited singers including Kang Jin and the final round of the singing contest will continue.

Dried persimmons have long been recognized for their excellent medicinal properties. They are known to stop diarrhea and are effective for coughs and phlegm due to their rich nutritional content. They are also said to be good for preventing high blood pressure and colds, as well as relieving hangovers.

Especially, Haman Gotgam, dried by the wind blowing through the clean area of Yeohangsan Mountain at an altitude of 770 meters, is made from the native variety Sushi (水枾), characterized by fewer seeds, high sweetness, and soft yet chewy flesh. Additionally, its beautiful shape and vivid color have made it a royal court tribute since the Joseon Dynasty under King Sukjong, attesting to its excellent taste and quality.

A county official said, “This festival is a great opportunity to enjoy Haman Gotgam, a chewy and sweet winter snack loved by people of all ages,” adding, “We will take this festival as a chance to widely promote the excellence of Haman Gotgam, enhance the pride and income of dried persimmon producers, and do our best to develop it into the nation’s top premium dried persimmon.”
