"Perfect for AR Glasses"... Libest Unveils Flexible Battery at CES

"Perfect for AR Glasses"... Libest Unveils Flexible Battery at CES Ribest's flexible battery for AR glasses to be unveiled at CES 2024.

Rivest, a lithium-ion battery startup led by CEO Kim Juseong, announced on the 3rd that it will showcase a new series of flexible batteries at CES 2024, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA, from the 9th to the 12th.

At CES 2024, Rivest plans to unveil specially designed flexible batteries tailored for augmented reality (AR) glasses. This product maintains independent functionality without additional external batteries or devices, while not compromising on comfort.

This product combines multiple types of batteries and resembles the shape of eyeglass temples. First, to ensure durability, the part of the temple that folds and the section that hooks over the ear use a conventional lithium-ion battery structure. The part that hooks over the ear features a curved battery structure, and the section that extends behind the ear is designed with a flexible battery structure to enhance user comfort.

Rivest explained that by applying a multi-structure to a single battery, they designed it to accommodate battery placement in areas where conventional batteries could not be installed. As a result, Rivest's battery application enables securing a battery capacity of 1500 milliampere-hours (mAh) in a single AR glasses device. The company stated, "This capacity is about five times that of the Apple Watch series," adding, "It is sufficient to operate high-definition, high-refresh-rate displays necessary for a more immersive augmented reality experience."

Founded in 2016, Rivest holds technologies and patents related to flexible lithium-ion batteries. In May 2023, it established a manufacturing plant in the Dungok International Science Business Belt in Daejeon, equipped with a fully automated flexible battery production line. The company also participated in CES twice, in 2020 and 2023, winning innovation awards. At this exhibition, Rivest plans to introduce products for various IT devices ranging from ultra-small to mobile-grade.

Kim Juseong, CEO of Rivest, said, "As the metaverse and wearable device markets steadily grow, devices are becoming more diverse than before, and market needs are focusing on developing devices that are comfortable to wear, aesthetically excellent, and uniquely designed." He added, "We hope that the new types of batteries introduced at this exhibition will expand the market and act as a game changer."
