'Unpacked' in San Jose, California
Samsung's First AI Smartphone
Expected to Feature 'On-Device AI' Functionality
Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy S24 series, integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, in the United States on the 17th (local time).
Samsung Electronics officially announced on the 3rd that it will hold 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024' at 10 a.m. (local time) on the 17th in San Jose, California, USA. The event will take place at 3 a.m. Korean time on the 18th.
Samsung stated, "Please experience firsthand the new mobile AI experience and the infinite possibilities filled with Galaxy AI and Samsung Electronics' innovation."
A short 12-second video and an Unpacked invitation image were also released. The video previewed the launch of an AI smartphone with the English phrase "Galaxy AI is coming."
The Galaxy S24 series is Samsung Electronics' first AI smartphone.
With AI smartphone shipments expected to reach around 100 million units this year, attention is focused on how the Galaxy S24 series will perform as a market leader.
The new product is expected to feature an 'on-device AI' function that can independently collect information and perform computations within the device.
On-device AI allows the device to collect information and process computations internally without connecting to the cloud. Since it does not transmit information to the cloud or go through a central server, it offers faster processing speeds and stronger security.
Features such as the real-time translation call service 'AI Live Interpretation Call,' photo editing using generative AI, and document summarization functions are expected to be included.
The application processors (AP) serving as the smartphone's brain are expected to be Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Samsung Electronics' self-developed chipset, Exynos 2400. The top-tier Ultra model will use Snapdragon, while the Plus and base models will use Exynos depending on the sales region.
In terms of design, it is believed that there will be little difference from the previous Galaxy S23 series. The base model is expected to have 8GB RAM, while the Plus and Ultra models will have 12GB RAM. Battery capacities are predicted to be 4000mAh for the base model, 4900mAh for the Plus, and 5000mAh for the Ultra. Prices are expected to remain at the previous model's level.
Meanwhile, the new product launch event will be simultaneously live-streamed online through Samsung Electronics Newsroom, YouTube, and Samsung.com.
