Real Names of About 170 Anonymized Individuals in Trial to Be Disclosed

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton was reportedly mentioned more than 50 times in the trial related to billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was involved in a scandal involving the sexual exploitation of minors, sparking expected repercussions. On the 1st (local time), foreign media including the New York Post reported that the person appearing as 'John Doe 36,' a name used by the U.S. court for anonymity in documents related to the Epstein trial, is believed to be former President Clinton.

Previously, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ordered the disclosure of the real names of individuals who had been anonymized in the Epstein trial documents. According to the court order, the real names of those involved in the trial will be revealed soon. However, local media explained that although former President Clinton’s inclusion in the list of disclosed names has been confirmed in advance, this does not imply that he was involved in any sex crimes. ABC News analyzed that Clinton was likely mentioned during discussions on whether to call celebrities close to Epstein as witnesses during the trial.

Epstein Built Wide Connections with Political and Business Figures Including Trump, Bill Gates, and Chomsky

Billionaire Epstein is known to have used his wealth to build extensive connections with political and business figures worldwide. In particular, he was known to travel by private jet with former Presidents Clinton and Donald Trump. He also had close relationships with Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft (MS), and Noam Chomsky, the world-renowned linguist and professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Due to his wide network, more than 170 individuals anonymized in the Epstein-related trial documents have been identified.

Former President Clinton faced suspicion of involvement in the case after a photo surfaced in 2002 showing him receiving a massage from a woman who was a victim of Epstein’s sexual exploitation. As the controversy grew, he strongly denied any illegal activity and continues to maintain this stance. The trial documents confirming Clinton’s real name are related to a lawsuit filed in 2015 by Virginia Giuffre, an American woman who was sexually exploited by Epstein. Giuffre publicly revealed that she was sexually assaulted not only by Epstein but also by Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom, who was known to be close to Epstein.

Epstein, a former hedge fund manager, was prosecuted in Florida in 2006 on charges of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. Later, in 2019, while awaiting trial in a U.S. federal court on charges of sex trafficking dozens of minors, Epstein took his own life in jail.
