Child Material and Safety Verification... Conducted 'In-Person'
Convenience for Parents, Also Available in Evening Hours and Weekends
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) will conduct preliminary enrollment sessions for new elementary school students for the 2024 academic year at 297 public elementary schools in the Busan area from the 3rd to the 6th.
The target students for elementary school admission in the 2024 academic year are 21,901 children born between January 1 and December 31, 2017, including those who deferred or postponed admission from the previous year.
This preliminary enrollment will primarily be conducted face-to-face to more thoroughly verify the whereabouts and safety of the children. Additionally, to accommodate parents and guardians, sessions will also be held during evening hours and weekends.
Parents or guardians of children eligible for school enrollment must review the contents of the enrollment notification and school-specific instructions, then bring the enrollment notification and attend the preliminary enrollment session with their child.
If attendance at the preliminary enrollment session is unavoidable, parents or guardians must contact the school where the child will enroll before the scheduled session. In particular, guardians who find it difficult for their child to attend school due to unavoidable reasons such as illness or developmental conditions may apply for exemption or deferral of compulsory education at the school where the child is expected to enroll.
Exemption means being relieved from compulsory education, and deferral means postponing compulsory education until the next academic year.
If a child does not attend the preliminary enrollment session without prior notice, the Office of Education and local government will use phone calls and home visits to verify the child's whereabouts and safety, and if necessary, will request an investigation from the local police station.
Kang Jun-hyun, Director of the Student and Parent Support Division at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “We hope parents participate in the preliminary enrollment not only to register their children but also to receive school education information. Our office will do its best to cooperate actively with related agencies during the preliminary enrollment period to confirm the whereabouts and safety of children eligible for school enrollment.”
