Two female directors in Seoul's autonomous districts are making headlines.
They are Lee Yu-gyeong, Administrative Director of Jungnang-gu, and Lee Jeong-hee, Director of the Smart Inclusive City Bureau in Seongdong-gu.
Born in 1970 and 1969 respectively, these young directors are public officials who possess both competence and diligence, earning the respect of many junior colleagues.
Lee Yu-gyeong of Jungnang-gu. Born in 1970, she was promoted to Grade 4 on July 1st, becoming the first person born in the 1970s to be appointed as a director in Seoul's autonomous districts, which attracted attention.
After graduating high school, she joined Jungnang-gu Office as a Grade 9 public official at the age of 19 in July 1989, making her a veteran public servant with 34 years of service this year.
After holding key positions within the district office such as Personnel Team Leader, she was promoted to Grade 5 (Administrative Officer) and served as Head of Corporate Support Division, Head of Job Economy Division, Head of Culture and Tourism Division, and Head of Village Cooperation Division before being promoted to Grade 4.
After her promotion to Grade 4 (Director), she was appointed as Director of the Safety, Construction, and Transportation Bureau, and within six months, she was assigned as the Administrative Director, the top director in the district office. Starting January 2, 2024, she will be responsible for major administrative duties including facility management and personnel.
Director Lee has been recognized as a "competent public official" by every Jungnang-gu district mayor in history. A senior official from Jungnang-gu said, "Director Lee understands the flow of work well and approaches it with sincerity, making her trustworthy to anyone in higher positions."
There is a Seoul autonomous district director comparable to Director Lee, namely Lee Jeong-hee, Director of the Smart Inclusive City Bureau in Seongdong-gu. Born in 1969, she began her public service career as a Grade 9 public official at Seongdong-gu Office in June 1988, marking 35 years this year.
Director Lee is a diligent worker who, while holding key positions such as Budget Team Leader, Planning and Budget Division Head twice, Dongjang (neighborhood chief), and Head of Urban Regeneration Division, also earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Hanyang University within three years while attending graduate school.
Especially during her tenure as Planning and Budget Division Head, she was praised for her diligence in frequently visiting sites to verify the feasibility of budget-related projects.
Additionally, Director Lee is recognized as a leading presenter within the district office, having represented Seongdong-gu at national competitions and delivered briefings that won top awards. A Seongdong-gu official praised, "Director Lee Jeong-hee is an exemplary public official whose sincerity is unmatched among her peers."
Both directors are devout Christians and are known to set exemplary examples in their daily lives, earning the admiration of many employees who follow them.
