All members of the group BLACKPINK?Jennie, Lisa, Ros?, and Jisoo?are leaving their agency YG Entertainment. They plan to continue BLACKPINK's group activities under YG.
On the 29th, YG stated, "We have agreed not to proceed with separate additional contracts for individual activities."
They added, "Our company will do its best to support BLACKPINK's activities," and "We will warmly cheer on the members' individual activities." Earlier, on the 6th of this month, YG announced that it had signed exclusive contracts with all four members as a 'group.'
Yang Hyun-suk, YG's chief producer, said at the time, "We are pleased to continue our relationship with BLACKPINK," and "We will do our utmost to help BLACKPINK shine even more brilliantly in the global music market."
However, as the four members have grown into world-class stars, there have been expectations in the music industry that YG would find it difficult to sign individual exclusive contracts with them.
Until now, YG had maintained a stance of "under discussion" regarding questions about individual exclusive contracts, but with this announcement, they have officially confirmed the separation.
Going forward, BLACKPINK will follow a "together yet separate" approach, similar to senior K-pop groups like EXO or Super Junior, where members belong to different agencies but come together for team activities, balancing individual and group promotions.
Earlier, member Jennie revealed on her social media (SNS) that she had established her own label, "ODD ATELIER."
BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, 2016, with the double title tracks "Whistle" and "Boombayah." The four members?Jennie, Jisoo, Ros?, and Lisa?debuted as YG's new girl group, combining talent and beauty, immediately generating significant attention.
They have become K-pop's leading stars by making every release a hit, including their debut songs as well as "Playing with Fire," "As If It's Your Last," "DDU-DU DDU-DU," "Kill This Love," "Lovesick Girls," "Pink Venom," and "Shut Down."
In September last year, their second full album "BORN PINK" became the first K-pop girl group album to top both the US Billboard main album chart "Billboard 200" and the UK Official Albums Chart "Top 100," solidifying their status as global stars.
Additionally, they successfully completed the largest world tour ever held by a K-pop girl group, attracting 1.8 million attendees worldwide (based on solo concerts) last year and this year.
