Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is focusing its administrative efforts on helping affected residents recover their daily lives and supporting the stability of evacuees following the apartment fire incident in Banghak-dong on December 25.
Immediately after the fire, the district established an integrated support headquarters composed of a situation control team and welfare measures to promptly respond by identifying victims and assisting with accident recovery.
Oh Eon-seok, the district mayor who visited the fire site, said, “The pain of residents affected by the sudden fire and the families of the casualties must be very great,” and instructed, “Please make every effort to provide temporary shelter for evacuees immediately and manage the casualties thoroughly.”
The district first set up a temporary shelter at the apartment’s senior citizens’ center to accommodate evacuees and is currently protecting 21 people from 8 households at two temporary housing facilities within the district. For evacuees who find it difficult to return home after discharge, temporary accommodations will be provided for up to one month. For the 30 injured, dedicated staff have been assigned to monitor their treatment status and assist in their recovery.
At the accident site, a civil complaint reception desk was established for follow-up measures, receiving a total of 51 complaints. The complaints, including soot and cleaning issues, are currently being addressed in consultation with the management office and related agencies to find solutions.
Additionally, an on-site psychological support counseling center and trauma medical desk are operating at the scene. Mental health professionals are providing psychological first aid and individual counseling to evacuees, bereaved families, and witnesses suffering trauma related to the fire, while doctors and nurses dispatched by the district are supporting treatment for injured residents.
For legal support related to the fire, a “visiting legal consultation” service is being operated centered on Dobong-gu lawyers. Services such as damage recovery consultations are provided daily from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Insurance payments from the Citizen Safety Insurance will be provided to the families of victims who lost their lives in the fire, and donations collected through the Dobong-gu Social Welfare Council will be delivered directly.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I feel heavy-hearted that casualties occurred due to the fire on Christmas dawn, a time that should be filled with joy with family,” and added, “The district will mobilize all human and material resources to ease the pain of the bereaved families and evacuees and help them return to a safe daily life as soon as possible.”
