Eunpyeong-gu Opens Community Hub Space 'Eoulmaru' for Residents

Multipurpose Space Comprising Lecture Rooms and Office Areas... Scheduled to Host Public Interest Lectures and Programs for Residents

Eunpyeong-gu Opens Community Hub Space 'Eoulmaru' for Residents

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it held the opening ceremony of ‘Eoulmaru,’ a community activity hub space, on the 26th.

‘Eoulmaru’ was reopened after remodeling Tojeonggol Sarangbang located in Yeokchon-dong. It is a space that any Eunpyeong-gu resident can use anytime together, where people can drop by comfortably like a neighborhood sarangbang and use it freely.

The name ‘Eoulmaru’ means ‘a space used by people coming together,’ and it was selected as the best name among those submitted in a naming contest held prior to the reopening.

The opening ceremony was held with about 40 attendees, including Eunpyeong-gu residents. The event marked the new beginning of ‘Eoulmaru’ with a pre-performance of guitar and ocarina by residents. The ceremony proceeded in the order of a project progress report, congratulatory speeches supporting Eoulmaru, a group tour of the space, and a plaque unveiling ceremony.

The facility covers an area of 123.44㎡ and includes ▲a multipurpose space ▲a lecture room ▲an office ▲and other auxiliary spaces. The multipurpose space can be used for various activities such as an open library, board games, meetings, and program sessions, while the lecture room can accommodate up to about 16 people. Both the multipurpose space and the lecture room are planned to be available for rental and to host various lectures and programs.

Since it is a space where residents gather to create meaning together, a new resident management team will be recruited, and it will be operated as a public-private cooperative space that balances residents’ autonomy in management with administrative publicness.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “As resident activities are actively carried out in various areas such as participatory budgeting, resident autonomy, and volunteering, the seed of innovation in our district comes from ‘gatherings.’ I hope that based on Eoulmaru, it will become a cornerstone for discovering and solving issues closely related to residents’ daily lives and a resting place where residents can come and go comfortably.”
