Yangcheon-gu Fully Opens Omok Park Renovated into a Complex Cultural Space Including Art Museums

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it has completed the second renovation of Omok Park (21,470㎡) and reopened it as an urban garden in the heart of Mok-dong, featuring an art museum, kids cafe, and walking trails for residents.

Earlier, in September, the district had opened 43% of the total area by creating a central lawn with a 3.7m elevated walkway (corridor), along with a plant, book, and art rest area, as well as a wooden deck lounge with tables and benches.

The newly opened second phase includes the Omokhan Art Museum, Seoul-style Kids Cafe, infant forest rest area, walking trails, basketball court, and health lounge. Through these additions, Omok Park is expected to establish itself as a multifunctional leisure space offering opportunities for art appreciation, health promotion, and child-friendly facilities.

The remodeled woodworking workshop building now houses the newly opened “Omokhan Art Museum,” designed as a 120㎡ cultural space to enrich residents’ daily lives within the central commercial district park. While preserving the original gable roof structure, the exterior features traditional brickwork to create a cozy and classic atmosphere. Inside, point rail lighting and white interiors enhance the display of artworks and create a sense of spaciousness.

Across from the museum, a pine forest was landscaped to provide a stylish natural backdrop. Additionally, a nursing room for visitors with infants was installed inside the museum building. The inaugural exhibition features members of the Yangcheon Art Association, with plans to showcase diverse exhibitions including painting, media, and three-dimensional art in the future.

Next to the museum, a 225.72㎡, single-story “Seoul-style Kids Cafe Omok Park Branch” was established. Folding doors were installed at the front to connect the indoor play area with the outdoor park. Supported by a 200 million KRW grant from the Korea Forest Service, eco-friendly domestic woods such as larch and oak were used to promote carbon neutrality. The kids cafe interior includes physical activity spaces like a hide-and-seek maze, a creative play zone, a cozy cushion-lined secret hideout, and rest areas. After a pilot operation period, the Omok Park branch is scheduled to officially open in January.

The rectangular walking trail surrounding Omok Park features gentle slopes for barrier-free access and is planted with approximately 13,000 trees, creating a small urban forest.

Additionally, the park includes an infant forest rest area with a net lounge, an 804㎡ basketball court equipped with six basketball hoops for adults and children, and a 369㎡ health lounge with outdoor exercise equipment.

The Omokhan Art Museum and Seoul-style Kids Cafe Omok Park Branch operate from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and are closed on Mondays and public holidays. The Seoul-style Kids Cafe operates on a reservation basis with three sessions per day. For more details, please refer to the “Our Neighborhood Care Portal” website.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “After a long wait, the fully renovated Omok Park has reopened, and I hope it will become a representative hub where residents can enjoy various leisure activities including art, ecology, play, and sports beyond just green space.”
