Chosun University of Science and Technology is solidifying its position as a leading university in entrepreneurship education innovation.
On the 28th, Chosun University of Science and Technology announced that it held an awards ceremony inviting students who received excellent evaluations at the university-wide Capstone Design Competition, and also hosted the 1st PEARL LTM+ Startup Camp to discover students' entrepreneurial ideas and boost their entrepreneurial motivation.
The Engineering Technology Innovation Center at Chosun University of Science and Technology held the on-campus Capstone Design Competition awards ceremony on the morning of the 28th at 10 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom of Ramada Chungjang Hotel, attended by President Cho Soon-gye, Hwang Young-guk, head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation at Chosun University of Science and Technology, other university officials, about 40 enrolled students, and Ha Sang-yong, director of the Gwangju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation.
At this year’s competition, the 'Baljeon' team, which developed a mobile solar-tracking photovoltaic wind power generator, won the grand prize in the engineering field; the 'Eclee' team, which developed a multi-mat, won the grand prize in the regular curriculum category; and 'TC CROSS,' which developed an all-in-one cook set, won the grand prize in the convergence-type Capstone Design category. In total, 35 teams received awards.
At the awards ceremony, Ha Sang-yong, director of the Gwangju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, was invited as the keynote speaker, providing an opportunity to review the current startup ecosystem in the Gwangju region and enhance students’ entrepreneurial mindset.
Director Ha explained the company-builder type startup support operation system, which systematizes step-by-step startup operations, regional linkage programs, and investment support, and matches discovery and growth support according to the characteristics of startup companies, offering generous advice to student prospective entrepreneurs in the region.
In the afternoon, the 1st PEARL LTM+ Startup Camp was held, organized by the SCOUT project group at Chosun University of Science and Technology, to expand students’ technical ideas into startups.
The camp began with a special lecture on intellectual property (IP) by Professor Kim Ji-woong from the Department of Intellectual Property Convergence at Chonnam National University, followed by a lecture on the structure and writing methods of patent specifications, which received enthusiastic responses from students. Additionally, startup-related mentoring by experts from various fields and hands-on practice in electronic patent application were provided, strengthening students’ entrepreneurial capabilities as prospective entrepreneurs.
Hwang Young-guk, head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation at Chosun University of Science and Technology, said, "We prepared the PEARL LTM+ Startup Camp with the meaning of discovering prospective entrepreneurs like pearls in the mud and leading local, trend, and market (LTM) areas even more." He added, "We will continue to strive so that the SCOUT project group at Chosun University of Science and Technology can establish a systematic platform for nurturing entrepreneurs and faithfully fulfill its role as a regional startup hub."
