Awarding of the Korean Red Cross Honorary Medal
Song Chi-dong, a fire chief at the Changwon Fire Headquarters in Gyeongnam, achieved 100 blood donations and received an honorary medal from the Korean Red Cross.
Chief Song began donating blood at the Blood Donation House near his university when he was 22 years old and was awarded the Korean Red Cross honorary medal on the 26th after reaching 100 donations.
Last year, Chief Song donated blood about 20 times and chose not to receive the commemorative gifts given after donation, instead donating an equivalent amount of money, earning him the title of ‘Donation King’ from the Korean Red Cross.
Appointed in 2018, Chief Song is known as a diligent member who is always proactive in his duties and does not pass by when he sees people in need.
Chief Song said, “I am truly happy to be able to save precious lives through blood donations that I started to help those in need of blood,” adding, “As a firefighter, I will do my best in my current position to practice love for neighbors and protect lives.”
The Korean Red Cross awards titles based on the cumulative number of blood donations to promote a culture of blood donation: 30 donations receive a silver medal, 50 donations a gold medal, 100 donations an honorary medal, 200 donations an honorary grand medal, and 300 donations the highest honorary grand medal.
