On the 18th, the LINC 3.0 Project Group at Kookmin University (President Seungryeol Jeong) announced that it held the 2023 Capstone Design Competition Awards Ceremony.
Capstone Design is an interdisciplinary talent development program in which undergraduate students independently design, plan, and execute projects based on their major knowledge on topics requested by industries and local communities.
The Kookmin University LINC 3.0 Project Group supports students every semester in carrying out tasks so that they can cultivate creativity, practical skills, and teamwork based on comprehensive problem-solving. In this competition, teams from various majors including engineering, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, and arts and physical education participated, showcasing their skills and receiving recognition for their achievements.
The grand prize went to the ‘Un-Tag’ team (Juho Kim, Donghyun Kim, Seyun Kim, Sojung Kim, supervised by Professor Junseok Park) for presenting the ‘Design of a 13.56[MHz] Coil Antenna for NFC Application in Subway Turnstile Un-Tagging Near Field Zone.’ The Un-Tag team effectively demonstrated the limitations and distinctiveness of the existing tagless system by utilizing high-security NFC, and clearly explained the advantages from technical, industrial-economic, and socio-cultural perspectives, earning high praise from the judges.
The Excellence Award was given to the ‘Baebatgol Merchants’ team (Hyunjin Kim, Hyojin Kim, Kyungjin Lee, Yeonsin Jo, Daeun Park, supervised by Professor Seongil Kim) and the ‘Beomi Naeryeonda’ team (Yejin Lee, Taebeom Lee, supervised by Professor Jehyeok Lee). The ‘Baebatgol Merchants’ team provided a cultural arts education program directly to small business owners in Baebatgol near Kookmin University to raise awareness of their daily lives and reduce physical fatigue. The ‘Beomi Naeryeonda’ team focused on research to develop a VQA model capable of better recognizing blurry images and answering questions in Korean to improve the convenience of visually impaired people’s lives.
Oh Haryeong, head of the LINC 3.0 Project Group, said, “By holding the Capstone Design Competition every year, students build practical skills through collaboration with team members from various majors. We will actively support the creative and challenging excellent works discovered through the competition to be linked to technology transfer and commercialization.”
