A taxi driver who struck and killed three pedestrians claimed sudden unintended acceleration of the vehicle, but the police concluded it was due to driver negligence.
On the 28th, the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that taxi driver A (in his 60s) would be sent to prosecution without detention on charges of causing death and injury under the Special Act on the Treatment of Traffic Accidents.
A is accused of driving a taxi at an intersection in Songjeong-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, around 1:20 p.m. on October 8, hitting and killing three pedestrians crossing the crosswalk.
It was investigated that A entered the intersection on a red light, collided with a passenger car, and then rushed onto the crosswalk.
A claims the accident was caused by sudden unintended acceleration.
The police requested a detailed vehicle inspection from the National Forensic Service and recently received an analysis report indicating no abnormalities in the vehicle's braking system.
Based on these results, the police concluded the accident was due to A's negligence and decided to send the case to the prosecution.
