Accumulation of Challenging Spirit and Field-Oriented Management
POSCO announced on the 28th that it has published a book titled 'POSCO Myungjang,' which compiles interviews with 24 POSCO Myungjangs, the highest honor for POSCO technicians.
The POSCO Myungjang system is a program established by POSCO in 2015 to select and honor outstanding employees who possess not only excellent technical skills but also exemplary character. POSCO selects 2 to 4 individuals annually. POSCO explained, "Those selected as Myungjang receive various benefits such as special promotions, a reward of 50 million KRW, and induction into the Hall of Fame," adding, "It is regarded as the highest honor and a role model for field technicians."
The book 'POSCO Myungjang' includes the challenges, pride, and advice for juniors from 24 individuals who have risen to the rank of Myungjang with a strong sense of professionalism, from the first selected Myungjangs Son Byeongrak, Jo Gildong, and Kwon Youngguk to this year's newly selected Lee Youngjin and Lee Seondong. It contains not only the professional achievements of the Myungjangs but also sincere life stories such as their personal growth and life philosophies.
POSCO Myungjangs are living witnesses of POSCO’s field, having joined POSCO in the 1970s and 1980s and worked for over 30 years. The Myungjangs emphasize the field, saying, "Technological innovation starts and is completed in the field," and state that "the most important duty of a Myungjang is to pass on know-how to juniors." In fact, the vivid know-how accumulated by POSCO Myungjangs over more than 30 years in the field is systematically passed on to junior employees through the Myungjang system.
POSCO stated, "This book is not just about the 24 POSCO Myungjangs but explains the strength of 20,000 POSCO employees accumulated based on a culture that encourages challenge and values the field and technology, as well as POSCO’s competitiveness created by them," adding, "Through their stories, it proves the organizational culture and human competitiveness of an eco-friendly future materials leading company as a first mover in the Shin Cheolgi era."
